Scaly-headed Pionus Parrot/ Maximilian Pionus maximiliani

The Scaly-headed Pionus or Parrot, also called Maximilian's Pionus, is native to central and eastern South America. It has a white eye-ring, blue-purple chest and, as all Pionus species, a red vent/undertail.

As the scaly-headed name suggests, the feathers on the head give the appearance of scales.

Plumage on male and female is similar.
