The Blue-winged Parrot, also called the Blue-winged/Blue-banded Grass Parakeet,
looks like the Elegant Parrot, but has more blue on its wing. It is native to southeast Australia, including Tasmania.
Unusually for parrots, some Tasmanian birds migrate north to the Australian
mainland for the winter (as does its rarer relative, the Orange-bellied).
Females and juveniles are duller in colour than the males. Juveniles (above right) don't have the blue brow bands
and yellow bellies of the adult (above left).
