The Sri Lankan Junglefowl, also called Lafayette's Junglefowl, is endemic to Sri Lanka. The
male usually has a handsome iridescent royal blue tail but the chap above has lost his.
Like chickens and pheasants, the hen (above) needs cryptic camouflage plumage as the sole carer of
the eggs and chicks. Also like chickens, the cockerel will have a harem of hens.
Just like their chicken descendants, they like to cross roads. Although more closely resembling the
Red Junglefowl, the Sri Lankan is genetically more closely related to the Grey Junglefowl.
