Grey Jungle Fowl (Junglefowl) Gallus sonneratii

The Grey Jungle Fowl, also called Sonnerat's Junglefowl, is, together with the Red and other Junglefowls, the (part) ancestor of the some Domestic Chickens. It is native to India.

A tropical member of the pheasant family, like pheasants the male (above left/centre) is much more colourful than the female (above right) since the hen needs camouflage as the sole carer of the eggs and chicks. Like chickens, the cockerel will have a harem of hens.
