The Puna Teal is native to the high lakes and ponds of the Andes.
It was previously thought to be a subspecies of the similar-looking Silver Teal.
The Puna has no yellow on its blue/black bill, has clear white cheeks and a black cap.
The chest is spotted like that of the male Ringed Teal.
The Puna has closer stripes on the side than the Silver Teal.
Male and female have similar plumage.
