Hottentot Teal drake (above)
The Hottentot Teal duck (female - above) has similar plumage and bill to the male.
The Hottentot Teal is native to sub-Saharan Africa. In eastern and southern Africa it migrates but in western Africa it remains sedentary.
The Hottentot Teal of Africa is a little similar (plumage, patterning, dark crown, light cheek, blue bill)
to the
Silver Teal
and the
Puna Teal of South America.
All three were moved from genus
Anas to
Spatula in 2009 with shovelers, garganey and two other teals.
