The Tufted Duck is native to most of northern Eurasia.
This page shows the drake with his head tuft which gives the species name; females and young are on a separate page.
His black head has a green or purple sheen depending on the angle and light. His eyes are yellow.
The Tufted Duck breeds in parts of temperate Eurasia. It is resident in parts of its range,
centred on UK and Germany, and migrates south for winter in other parts.
