The Goldeneye is a small sea duck native to northern Europe and northern America.
The drake in breeding plumage, above, has a metallic green sheen on his head and round/oval white spots each side of his bill.
The metallic sheen needs the right light to be visible
The duck's name is due to its light yellow eye
