Schalow's Turaco is distinguished by its exceptionally tall, white-tipped crest (longer than the similar Livingstone's and not so graduated).
It is native to forests of southern (Angola to Zambia) and East Africa and the crest feathers are worn by Masai tribesmen.
The plumage looks quite dull green under the trees but the wings and tail are iridescent turquoise and purple in the sunlight.
