Bruce's Green Pigeon, native to African savannah from Nigeria in the west to Ethiopia in the east
and part of the Middle East, is most unusual among birds. Like Turacos, its green plumage is produced by pigment rather than
reflected light. A fruit dove, the pigment is derived from the specialised fig diet.
Male and female have similar plumage. Also unusually, the male incubates the eggs and
looks after the chicks by day and the female by night.
