The Blue-winged Kookaburra is native to northern Australia and New Guinea.
The male, above, has a blue tail as well as turquoise blue on the wings and rump.
The female, above, has a rufous brown tail.
The undertail has moulted in the darker headed bird above; full undertail shown on the white-eyed, light-headed male nominal subspecies above right.
The "kingfisher" colours can be seen, but like the Common Kookaburra, the main diet is reptiles
(snakes, lizards) plus some small mammals or birds.
