The Couas are members of the cuckoo family,
native to Madagascar with different species using different habitats. They are not brood parasites; they build nests and raise their young.
The Blue Coua is a large coua with airforce blue plumage with a hint of red/violet in the long tail.
Like all couas, it has bare, blue skin around the eye.
Male and female have similar plumage. They like a more humid, tropical climate than the Giant Couas.
Crested Coua
Coua cristata
The Crested Coua has blue-grey plumage with a grey crest, pinkish breast, white belly and white-tipped undertail.
Like all couas, it has bare, blue skin around the eye.
Male and female have similar plumage.
They are weak flyers but their third toe is reversible for gripping and hopping on tree branches.
