Tyrant Flycatchers Tyrant Flycatchers are a large and diverse group of American birds some of which resemble Eastern Hemisphere Flycatchers
The BOAT-BILLED FLYCATCHER, Megarynchus pitangua,
is a large Tyrant Flycatcher and the only member of its genus. It is present from Mexico to mid South America.
It can be distinguished from the Great Kiskadee by its massive, boat-shaped bill and less rufous plumage on wings and tail.
The photos were taken in Costa Rica by Alexandra Makhnina who says that, like many other tyrant flycatchers,
the bird was not timid around people.
The WHITE-RINGED FLYCATCHER, Conopias albovittatus,
is present in southern Central America, Colombia and Ecuador. It looks remarkably similar to several other tyrant flycatchers in the region.

The SOCIAL FLYCATCHER, Myiozetetes similis, has the name "similis"
since it is remarkably similar to several related tyrant flycatchers. It is present from Mexico to northern South America.
