Red-crested Cardinal Paroaria coronata

The Red-crested Cardinal is native to southern Brazil, northern Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. It is not related to the Northern Cardinal of North America but is a Tanager.

It has a bright cardinal red head with spiked crest, red throat, white front and dark grey and black back/wings.

Male and female have similar plumage.
