The Spanish Sparrow has two subspecies, the nominal/Western which ranges from the Canary Islands, via Spain and North Africa, to Western Turkey and the Eastern or Transcaspian which ranges from Eastern Turkey through southern Central Asia to the Kazakhstan/China border. Some migrate further south in winter. There are many hybrids where ranges overlap with these subspecies and with the Common House Sparrow (subspecies) and the Italian Sparrow.
