The LONG-TAILED FINCH, also called SHAFT-TAIL and BLACKHEART FINCH and LONG-TAILED GRASS-FINCH,
is native to northern Australia.
Male and female have similar plumage. He has a much longer tail than she has.
The colour of the beak varies through its range from red through orange to yellow.
The red-billed subspecies (above) is sometimes called Heck's Grass Finch
(P. a. hecki).
