The Brown Dipper, also called the Asian Dipper and Pallas's Dipper, forages on mountain streams of Central and Southern Asia. As its name indicates and like other dippers, it dips into the water from rocks and banks. It can swimm well under water.

The adult male and female are wholly plain brown. The White-bellied Dipper (Cinclus cinclus leucogaster) - see link below - overlaps the range and can be seen on the same stretches of stream as the Brown Dipper in some Himalayan regions.
