The Great Spotted Woodpecker is generally a shy bird but is tolerant when eating with other bird species. They will usually
be wary of the length of the woodpecker's bill and give way. The woodpecker is also a predator of nestlings.
The Ring-necked Parakeet, invasive in Europe, will evict Great Spotted Woodpeckers (and Starlings)
from their nest holes and take over the hole.
The pink-breasted woodpecker with Ring-necked Parakeet, Bluetit and Stock Dove.
The pink-breasted woodpecker dominates, chasing the parakeets off the feeder.
The gregarious Goldfinches are not phased by their dining companion(s).
The usually aggressive Robin waits its turn (the woodpecker doesn't usually stay long).
The quick and agile Long-tailed Tits, like the Goldfinches, are brave enough to muscle in while the woodpecker is eating.
This juvenile with full red cap and pale pink vent is happy to eat with Chaffinches and Blue tits. . .
and even with the Parakeet and Pigeon.
