The Whitethroat, also called Common Whitethroat to distinguish from other Whitethroats, is native to most of Europe
through to Central Asia and winters in Africa, Arabia and Pakistan.
The male has a greyer head, whiter throat and rustier wings than the female.
A male, above, singing. The female has a duller brown head rather than the grey of the male.
The Common Whitethroat is not closely related to the Lesser Whitethroat but can look very similar
to the Spectacled Warbler (see link below).
