Water Pigeon
Regarding drinking, two unusual features: -- unlike most garden birds, pigeons keep their beak under water and suck up fluid rather than raising their head to swallow each beak-full. -- the photo is of the unusual "water pigeon." This bird flew straight to the pond with wings outstretched and drank in flight. We thought it would drown as it appeared to land on the water, but it kept flying and repeated the move twice more. Swifts do this, but we hadn't seen pigeons do it before.
