The Black Grouse is native to much of northern Eurasia. The male is largely black with an iridescent dark blue neck and back,
a red wattle eyebrow and a lyre-shaped tail. The tail is raised, turkey-style, in courtship to display a white underside.
As usual with grouse and pheasants, the female is camouflaged in brown-grey plumage as she takes sole care of young.
