The grey and black Hooded Crow replaces the all black Carrion Crow in most of the eastern half of Europe (incl. Italy)
through to Central Asia/Middle East. In the UK, it replaces the Carrion Crow in parts of Scotland (north and west), the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.
Its role is similar but it is more sociable, congregating in flocks in cities.
The call is also similar and it can hybridise.
Above is a Carrion Crow with a group of Hooded Crows in a park in Berlin, an area near where the respective
ranges meet/overlap.
In a park in Leipzig, Germany, there were both fully black Carrion Crows and Hooded Crows (mainly
the former) and these obvious black-bellied hybrids.
