The European Black Widow Spider, also called the Mediterranean Black Widow, is native to southern Europe (from the
Iberian Peninsula) to Central Asia. The adult female has a rounded black body (about 7-15mm head/body length) with red spots, triangles
or patches on the back; the spots often have a light border. The male is half that size. The web is irregular and untidy, but strong and stores
prey and, above, the egg sac. It is usually found in grassland or cereal fields. Its bite may cause severe pain but is unlikely to kill a human.
