The Brazilian Black Tarantula or Bird-eating Spider is native to semi-arid Pampas and grasslands of southern Brazil.
It has an entirely black head/body with black hair and has a leg-span of 7 inches (18cm). They take 5 years to maturity and live for
some 5-10 years (male) and 25 years (female). Despite the name "Bird-eating Spider", their diet is mainly large insects and small reptiles
but can include any small animal.
