Zilla Orb Weaver Zilla diodia

The Zilla spider is native to much of Europe from Scandinavia in the north and the Caucasus in the east, but only in the southern part of the UK.

It can have a mottled light brown or whitish background with a light-bordered dark shield, two symmetrical dark patches and a top triangular patch. It grows to only some 4 cm long.

An orb weaver, it constructs an large orb web for such a small spider.

The web is successful in catching garden pests.
