The Stone Spider is so called as it is often found under logs, rocks and stones.
It is mainly nocturnal, hunting invertebrates. Head/body length is 10-18mm with 30-40mm legspan. It has a furry abdomen which
can be brown or grey and has 4 tubes at the end of the abdomen. Its relative Drassodes cupreus looks similar.
A Spider-hunting "Pompilid" wasp has immobilised this grey-bodied Stone Spider and removed its legs before
laying an egg on or in its body.
