The Black Lace Web Spider, also called Black Lace Weaver, is named after its style of web.
It has an indistinct pattern on its dark, hairy back (males clearer than females) and is big enough to take on a Wood Louse Spider.
It is up to 18mm long (head/body, female). The female stays to protect her egg sac and hatched spiderlings.
She lays another egg sac for them to eat, then lets them eat her.
