Sometimes called the Stripe-legged Spider (but, of course, many other spiders have striped/banded legs), it is the only member of its genus in the UK and is related to the Woodlouse Spider.

A small, elongated spider, males have a body length of some 5mm and females 6-7mm. It often has a dark head/thorax and a pale spot on its tubular the rear. The leg "stripes" can be red-brown or have an olive green tinge.

It is native to much of western and central Europe including most of the UK, but more common in the southeast.

It is mainly nocturnal, hunting small invertebrates, and is found in many habitats including leaf litter and houses. It doesn't build webs.
