The Gharial, also sometimes called Ganges Gharial or Indian Gharial to distinguish from the
False Gharial or Tomistoma, is native to India and Nepal.
It has an unusually thin snout (like the Malaysian Tomistoma) full of teeth.
Be careful who your friends are.
Mature males have a "ghara" (pot) on the end of the snout to alter/amplify sounds.
Males can grow to 6 metres (20 feet) long.
Juvenile.
It is critically endangered, hunted for skins, meat and trophies, egg consumption and traditional medicine parts
in addition to habitat pollution and destruction.
