Philippine Crocodile Crocodylus mindorensis

The Philippine Crocodile used to be prevalent throughout the Philippines but is now found in isolated groups on only a few islands. It is critically endangered.

It is one of the smaller crocodiles reaching some 5 feet (1.7 metres) long and is a freshwater inhabitant.

On some Philippine islands the massive Austro-Pacific Saltwater Crocodile (separate page) is also present.

Mothers care for hatchlings and carry them to water.

Juveniles are brown or black with white undersides and develop the adult's grey with light patches as they mature.
