White-lipped Komodo Island Pit Viper Trimeresurus insularis

The White-lipped Komodo Island Pit Viper, is a subspecies of the White-lipped Lesser Sunda Islands (or Indonesian) Pit Viper. While the nominal subspecies on other Lesser Sunda islands is generally green (providing good camouflage in trees), the Komodo Island subspecies is a light, electric or turquoise blue. They grow to some 60-80cm long (females larger).

Mainly nocturnal, they have heat-sensing "pits" between eye and nostril to sense prey and are venomous. They also wiggle the red-brown end of their tail to attract prey.
