The non-venomous snake is unusual for a reptile in preferring temperatures of just over 20 degrees. The coxi (Thai Red Mountain) subspecies shown has longitudinal black stripes on red but others have black bands. It has a white underside. Length reaches 90cm. Its bright colour has made the snake popular in the pet trade.
