The Thai Red Mountain Rat Snake is a subspecies of a snake also called just Red Mountain Snake, the Red Bamboo Rat Snake,
Red Mountain Racer and Black-banded Trinket Snake. This subspecies is native to medium altitude mountains of Northeastern Thailand,
but other subspecies are native to India, China, and other parts of Southeast Asia.
The non-venomous snake is unusual for a reptile in preferring temperatures as cool as just over 20 degrees.
The coxi (Thai Red Mountain) subspecies shown has longitudinal black stripes on red but others have black bands.
It has a white underside. Length reaches 90cm. Its bright colour has made the snake popular in the pet trade.
