The Sidewinder moves by winding from side to side to minimise contact with hot sand in its desert habitat of southwest USA
and northwest Mexico.
It is also called the Sidewinder Rattlesnake and the Horned Rattlesnake and is a type of pit viper. Pit vipers have a sixth
sense - heat-sensing pits between eyes and nostrils.
It can grow to some 30 inches (80cm).
The rattle on the tail warns that it is venomous. It eats lizards and rodents.
