The Blood Python is native to forests of Southeast Asia. The name "blood" refers to its usual reddish colouring. Its scientific name "curtus" refers to its very short tail for its fat body.

It can grow to 2 metres long. It is one of the least active snakes and can remain in undergrowth lying in wait for prey for a month or more.
