The African Rock Python is native to rocky areas of forests and savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa.
There are two subspecies, one in West and Central Africa and the other in southern Africa; some authorities class the latter
as a separate, full species, the Southern African Rock Python (P. natalensis).
It is the largest snake in Africa and can reach nearly 20 feet (nearly 6 metres) but is typically nearer 12 feet.
Like all pythons, it is non-venomous and constricts its prey. Prey can be as large as sheep/goats and antelopes.
