The Eastern Montpellier Snake is native to the eastern Mediterranean (Europe/Asia) and North Africa. It is closely related to the Montpellier Snake (M. monspessulanus) of western Mediterranean Europe and the Iberian Peninsula. They typically reach 170cm long but exceptionally can rech 260cm. They are mildly venomous to their prey (mainly lizards) but mostly harmless to humans.
