The Western Hognose snake is native to dry scrubland and forests of USA, southern Canada and Mexico. The Mexican Hognose
subspecies is sometimes treated as a full, separate species. The snake's name comes from its upturned nose scales.
It grows to nearly 2 feet in length and is not venomous (to humans or medium to large animals) nor constricting.
Its diet is lizards, frogs and small rodents.
