The Red Spitting Cobra is native to semi-desert and dry savannah of the Horn of Africa. Terrestrial and solitary, it can grow typically to around a metre long. Adults are diurnal and can spit venom some 2.5 metres into the eyes of perceived threats. Juveniles have a wide black collar mark and are nocturnal to avoid cannabalistic adults.
