The Bull Snake is a large, non-venomous colubrid snake considered a subspecies of the Gopher Snake. They are native
to arid areas of Canada, USA and northern/central Mexico. Length typically reaches some 5-6 feet (short of 2 metres) but
exceptions of over 8 feet (2.5 metres) have been known. They are constrictors that eat mainly small mammals.
Their colours range from yellow and brown to black and white.
The Gopher Snake is native to North America. There are 9 subspecies and they grow to some 5 feet long (range 3-7 feet).
Although non-venomous, when frightened the Gopher mimics a rattlesnake, flattening its head, hissing and shaking its tail.
This defensive behaviour results in many harmless Gophers being killed by mistaken identity as rattles. Diet is rodents.
Shown above is an albino Gopher; the typical Gopher colouring is a light brown background with darker brown markings.
