The Chinese Fire-bellied Newt is native to well-vegetated forest streams, ditches and marshes in east-central China.
With its black body and limbs with a bright orange (biofluoresent) black-spotted underside, it looks similar to the related Japanese Fire-bellied
Newt.
Males grow to some 4cm snout-to-vent and females 4.5cm; total length including tail is 6-8cm.
It secretes mildly poisonous toxins through its skin.
