The Splash-backed Poison (Dart) Frog lives in tropical rainforests of Brazil. A small frog but medium in poison frog terms at some 30-40mm head/body length. It has a black face and underparts with a vivid yellow, orange or bright red "splash" of colour on its back and the upper side of its back legs.

It is terrestrial with eggs laid on the ground and the hatched tadpoles carried to water.
