Such a shame that this attractive and colourful little frog is nocturnal and the only photos I've managed to take
are of it sleeping, camouflaged, on or under a leaf. The Red-eyed Tree Frog is native to humid forests of Central America.
It has bright red eyes, which are covered in a lace-like eyelid when asleep, allowing light through to alert and awaken it if approached.
The body is light green with yellow and blue sides to camouflage its outline in the leaves and orange feet with
good suction ability. It is some 5cm long (head/body). Despite its colours, it is not poisonous. Threats include habitat loss,
collection for the pet trade and viral/fungal infections.
