The Mountain Chicken is a large frog native to the Caribbean Islands of Montserrat and Dominica (and formerly to other
islands). It is hunted by people for food and is said to taste like chicken.
The Mountain Chicken is now critically endangered, partly through hunting, partly through habitat loss and partly
through a deadly fungal disease.
One of the world's largest frogs, the female can grow to over 8 inches long. She feeds her tadpoles her own,
unfertilised eggs in a foam nest in a terrestrial burrow.
