The Banded Bullfrog, also called the Asian or Chubby Painted or Balloon Frog, is native to forests
and ricefields of a large part of mainland Southeast Asia from Myanmar to southern China in addition to patches of
northeastern and southern India. (The similar Assam Painted/Balloon Frog takes over in part of the northeast India range.)
It is invasive elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
It likes habitat where it can dig and burrow in mud and is also called the Digging Frog. The "Balloon"
and "Chubby" part of its names relate to its ability to inflate its body when threatened (also releasing a toxic white
liquid). The "Painted" (and taxonomic "pulchra") names relate to the yellow, orange or pinkish bands along the body.
Head/body length reaches some 5-7cm (3 inches) long.
