The Florida Softshell Turtle is native to the US state of Florida and borders of some other southeastern states.
It is almost fully aquatic, preferring slow-moving or still water and swamps. It can remain submerged for several hours and
comes ashore to lay eggs and to bask in sun.
It is one of the largest freshwater turtles in the US, with females reaching over 2 feet length.
Like other softshells, the shell is leathery rather than horn.
