Flat-backed Spider Tortoise
The Flat-backed Spider Tortoise, also called the Madagascan Flat-tailed Tortoise, is a small tortoise endemic to a small area of dry, deciduous forest between two rivers in western Madagascar. It is critically endangered both because of its small native habitat and also through habitat degradation (especially burning and clearing of forest as it lies dormant in leaf litter in the dry season) and collection for the pet trade.
