The Snake-eating Twin-hinged Tortoise lives in ponds and flooded rice fields in Central China and the Ryukyu Islands.
It is also called the Yellow-striped Chinese Box Turtle, but it doesn't swim and is not a true turtle.
It can live in shallow water and it eats frogs and juvenile snakes as well as insects, unlike most true tortoises which are vegetarian.
Like other Asian Box Turtles, it is a terrapin. It can also live on land.

The name "Twin-hinged" refers to hinges on front and back which can be closed to seal "carapace" and "plastron" together with head
and limbs inside protected against predators. Considered a food delicacy, they are now an endangered species.
