There are 5 separate populations of Galapagos Giant Tortoise native to the largest island, Isabela, and
general acceptance that the most northern population around the Wolf Volcano (C. (n.) becki) are sufficiently genetically different
from the four populations further south to be a separate subspecies, if not species.
It is said the Wolf Volcano population resulted from a separate colonisation event and source (from Santiago Island rather
than Santa Cruz Island).
