Hilaire's Side-necked Turtle, also called Hilaire's Toad-necked Turtle and the Argentinian Side-necked, is a large terrapin
native to lakes and slow-moving rivers of the southern half of South America. It grows to a length of some 40cm. It has a thick black border line
between the grey top colour and the whitish lower colour of its head and neck. There are two sensitive barbels under the chin. Its main diet is
water shrimps and larvae but it eats any other small animals.
Sidenecks withdraw their head and long neck sideways into the shell rather than straight.
