The Prehensile-tailed Skink, as its name indicates, is most unusual for a skink in having a prehensile tail
(useful for its life high in the trees). It is also called the Solomon Islands Skink and the Monkey-tailed Skink and is native to
the Solomon Islands Archipelago off Papua New Guinea.
It is the largest species of skink in the world, reaching over 30 inches (80 cm) in length, over half of which is the tail.
They are entirely vegetarian. They live in small social groups but are threatened by logging.
